"Haikou Yeah": The Haikou International Talent Volunteer Service Team's Public Welfare Classroom Visits Dongying Primary School
为深入推进海南自贸港国际化教育交流，落实外事为民走基层工作举措，发挥国际人才专业优势，助力乡村基础教育提质增效，5 月 22 日下午，海口市外事办公室组织“海口 Yeah” 海口国际人才志愿服务团教育专家团队走进美兰区灵山镇东营小学，开展英语与音乐公益兴趣课堂。
To further advance international educational exchanges in the Hainan Free Trade Port, implement the people-oriented grassroots approach to foreign affairs work, leverage the professional expertise of international talents, and enhance the quality and efficiency of rural basic education, the Haikou Foreign Affairs Office organized the "Haikou Yeah" International Talent Volunteer Service Team's education expert group on the afternoon of May 22 to conduct free interest classes in English and music at Dongying Primary School in Lingshan Town, Meilan District.
本次公益课堂由新加坡籍符积虎教授、Mona老师领衔，携手两位新加坡籍音乐教师组成志愿教学团队，依托海口国际人才之家资源优势，为孩子们量身打造沉浸式双语教育课堂。课堂上，符积虎教授与Mona老师摒弃传统说教模式，通过趣味口语互动、情景对话模拟、英文歌曲传唱等形式，营造轻松活泼的英语学习氛围，引导孩子们大胆开口、自信表达，在欢乐互动中提升英语听说能力，感受跨语言交流的魅力。
This public welfare classroom was led by Professor Fu Jihu and Teacher Mona, both Singaporean nationals, in collaboration with two fellow Singaporean music teachers to form a volunteer teaching team. Leveraging the resources of the Haikou International Talent Home, they designed immersive bilingual education sessions tailored for children. During the classes, Professor Fu Jihu and Teacher Mona moved away from traditional didactic approaches, employing engaging oral interactions, situational dialogue simulations, and English song singing activities to create a relaxed and lively English learning environment. This approach encouraged children to speak confidently, enhanced their listening and speaking skills through enjoyable interactions, and allowed them to experience the charm of cross-language communication.
音乐课堂同样精彩纷呈。新加坡籍音乐老师们以生动有趣的教学方式，带领孩子们感受旋律节奏、学习简单乐器演奏、开展集体音乐游戏，将乐理知识融入趣味互动中，充分激发孩子们的音乐兴趣与艺术潜能，让乡村学子近距离接触国际化音乐教育理念，在美育熏陶中涵养情操、点亮梦想。
The
music classes are equally vibrant and engaging. Singaporean music
teachers employ lively and interesting teaching methods to help
children experience melodies and rhythms, learn to play simple
instruments, and participate in group musical games. By integrating
music theory knowledge into these interactive activities, they fully
stimulate the children's interest in music and artistic potential,
allowing rural students to gain firsthand exposure to international
music education concepts while cultivating their character and
nurturing their dreams through aesthetic
education.

The "Haikou Yeah" International Talent Volunteer Service Team, jointly established by the Haikou Municipal Foreign Affairs Office and the Haikou Municipal Bureau of Science, Technology and Industry Information Technology (Haikou Foreign Experts Bureau), serves as a vital public welfare platform that brings together international talents in Hainan and embodies the philosophy of "foreign affairs for the people and international collaboration." This initiative exemplifies the foreign affairs department's commitment to engaging with grassroots communities and deploying resources directly to schools. Since its inception, the team has consistently organized volunteer activities—including campus support programs, community services, and cultural exchanges—to promote multicultural integration and advance Haikou's internationalization efforts. Professor Fu Jihu and Teacher Mona, core foreign volunteers of the team, have long dedicated themselves to Hainan's educational philanthropy, contributing their expertise and passion to local education development. Their public lecture at Dongying Primary School not only provided students with engaging English and music lessons that broadened their global perspectives but also demonstrated how foreign affairs initiatives empower education and channel international resources to grassroots levels. Through concrete actions, the team exemplifies the spirit of international talent volunteerism, building a warm bridge for Sino-foreign educational exchange. Moving forward, the "Haikou Yeah" team will continue collaborating with the Haikou International Talent Center, strengthen regular school outreach programs, integrate premium international educational resources, and sustain campus volunteer initiatives to extend the benefits of global education to more rural students, thereby contributing to balanced educational development and international collaboration in the Hainan Free Trade Port.
